It is, in many ways, an improved 32nm variety of the remarkable Xeon 5500 series. This user-friendly, upgraded version gives you more of what you want, with less effort and increased economics. With the Intel Xeon X5670, the user can expect significantly lower power consumption, more CPU and SMP configuration, higher RAM support and better overall performance. The power casing houses two extra cores, which translates to 5-10 percent higher clock speed. If the clock speed is kept continual, lower power consumption can be expected. The thriftiest quad core is now rated at 40W TDP, rather than 60W. The most noticeable upgrade is that the Intel Xeon X5670 comes equipped with six cores instead of four, and a cache of 12MB L3 instead of an 8MB cache. More subtle, but equally compelling, changes include: VMexit inactivity reductions, a power gate along with support for a low power DDR-3, and TLB improvements with address space IDs and 1 GB pages.
